IntermEdiate CLASSES
Our Intermediate swimming program builds on the foundational movements of swimming with initial stroke development, and more complex safety skills. We start with refining essential techniques, like straight-arm freestyle with side breathing and backstroke arm action, while also building crucial safety skills like treading water.
As your child progresses, they will move toward more mature strokes, including the high-elbow freestyle recovery, continuous backstroke arms, and an introduction to the breaststroke kick.
The final stage focuses on maintaining these refined techniques for full-length swimming, developing a propulsive breaststroke, and incorporating advanced training skills like dolphin kick and survival strokes to ensure your child is a strong, safe, and efficient swimmer.

Intermediate 1
Class Duration: 30 minutes
Class Size: Maximum of 4 children
The straight arm freestyle technique is refined into a more controlled and efficient movement. This strong base allows us to introduce a side breath to the stroke to swim greater distances. The backstroke arms are added to strengthening back kick and a basic form of treading water is also introduced.

Intermediate 2
Class Duration: 30 minutes
Class Size: Maximum of 5 children
Progressing towards more mature techniques. The side breathing technique in the freestyle is refined and the straight arm action is replaced with a basic, high elbow recovery. The backstroke arms are now continuous and provide much greater levels of propulsion. The breaststroke kick is introduced, with shape and tempo emphasised in the initial stages of learning this complicated movement. The treading water techniques introduced in the previous level are further developed allowing our students to sustain this important safety skill over longer periods.

Intermediate 3
Class Duration: 30 minutes
Class Size: Maximum of 5 children
The freestyle and backstrokes techniques are refined and, for the first time, required to be maintained for the full length of the pool. The breaststroke kick is further developed into an efficient and propulsive kick. Aspects of all 4 major strokes are now taught with the introduction of dolphin kick. Survival backstroke is introduced, and treading water is further refined to now use the proper arm and leg actions.
